West Allotment Celtic
MEET THE PLAYERS
Goalkeeper Finn made his debut for Allotment when only sixteen-years-old and has already surpassed a century of appearances for the club. He is an excellent shot-stopper and starts many attacks with his excellent distribution skills. Still only twenty-years-old, Finn’s career started with stints at both Cramlington Juniors and New Hartley Juniors.
Ryan is a twenty-three-year-old defender/midfielder who signed for Allotment during the 2019 close-season. He had previously been on a year’s scholarship in the USA. Ryan is technically very adept and keen to get down the flanks to support his forwards.
Thirty-year-old Graham joined the club during the close season and usually operates in the centre of defence, although he can also slot in at right-back. Manager Jay has known of Graham’s abilities for some time due to their mutual army backgrounds and is delighted to add his talent to the squad.
Unflappable twenty-five-year-old central defender Michael signed for Allotment during the summer of 2018 after previously playing for Seaton Delaval Amateurs. He has proven to be a fine acquisition, performing consistently well whether at full-back or in the centre of the defence. Still awaiting his first goal for the club!
Luke made his debut for Allotment as a teenager back in 2005 before going on to play for Newcastle Blue Star, Ashington and Tow Law Town. Luke, who can play on the left of midfield or at left-back re-joined Celtic in 2014 and has now made over 250 appearances for the club. Luke can always be guaranteed to give a committed performance and is a useful cricketer too.
The “quiet man” of the team returns after a season at Whickham. Jack was an outstanding performer for Celtic during the club’s barnstorming run of results in 2019/20. Jack was on the books of Burnley at the start of his career and turned out for Newcastle Benfield and Blyth Spartans before representing Blyth AFC during 2017/18. “Erra” can operate in midfield but has usually played in the centre of defence for Allotment and is a very forceful attacking option in set-piece situations.
Shane joined Allotment from Heaton Stannington in January 2019 and made an instant impact with a brace of goals away to Chester-le-Street on his debut. He has continued to find the net ever since, with many of them being stunning long-range strikes. Shane picked up a serious ankle injury just before the start of last season and missed most of the shortened campaign so will be desperate to get back into the scoring groove.
Michael made his Allotment debut as a substitute away to Redcar Athletic on the opening day of the 2019/20 season and is now approaching fifty appearances for the club. Technically very proficient, Michael is a highly accurate passer of the ball and also possesses a vicious shot when in range of goal.
Young midfielder who was a non-playing substitute on six occasions in 2017/18 and 2018/19 before going off to Loughborough University. Returning north, Sam re-signed for the club in October 2021 and finally got onto the pitch during the home win over Billingham Town.
Midfielder Liam made two appearances for Allotment during the 2018/19 campaign before moving away from the North East for a while. He re-joined the club last season and has become a regular starter in the centre of the pitch.
Mikel can operate at full-back or in midfield and has previously represented Newcastle Benfield and Heaton Stannington. He took a year out of the game but has been a regular starter since re-joining Celtic in August 2019. His pace, trickery and occasional goal make him a gem of a player no matter his starting position.
Twenty-two-years old, Jake signed for Allotment after playing for Percy Main Amateurs. Prior to joining Percy Main, Jake moved up through the junior ranks at Walker Central FC and represented Northumberland at Under-18 level. Very strong and capable of using both feet equally well, Jake operates from box-to-box and always has an eye for goal.
Now thirty-years-old, experienced midfielder Gil made his debut for Allotment in the opening match of the 2017/18 season after previously representing Horden, South Shields, Progresso Sambizanga (Angola), Jarrow, Consett and Newcastle Benfield. Not scared to tackle, Gil also has a useful trick or two and was “Players’ Player of the Year” in the 2018/19 season.
Another player that the club is delighted to welcome back into the fold after two seasons with Heaton Stannington. Regan made forty-three appearances for Allotment during the 2018/19 season, scoring seven goals. Extremely pacy and skilful, defenders will not relish the sight of Regan bombing down the wing towards them.
“Gee” signed for Allotment early in August and provides a pacy option for the manager at full-back or on the flank. Made his debut in the FA Cup-tie at Billingham Town, a club for whom he played last season. Gee has also played for Newcastle Benfield.
An exciting signing from Seaton Delaval in 2018, Michael is a real livewire and has proved to be a very reliable goal-scorer for Allotment. He had a spell with Heaton Stannington and has been playing for Killingworth in the Northern Alliance but re-signed for Allotment in October 2021.
Rui made four appearances for Allotment back in the 2017/18 season and was just breaking into the side last season when Covid caused its abandonment. Rui has featured at full-back and on the wing this season.
Callum is a young central striker signed after beginning his career with Newcastle East End in the Northern Alliance. He has proved to be an exceptional goal-scorer, with many of his strikes being long-range bullets; however, he is very adept at finding the net from anywhere – a defender’s nightmare.
Attacker who joined Allotment from Seaton Delaval, where he was a very consistent scorer. Matty’s non-stop endeavour and excellent first-touch mean no defender can relax and he puts in a full shift even when not on the scoresheet. Matty starts the new campaign with a record of 65 goals in 94 appearances for Allotment. He was the “Club Player of the Year” and “Players’ Player of the Year” for the 2019/20 season.
Dean first played for Allotment as a youngster back in 2009 but re-signed from Blyth AFC in August 2017 and works tirelessly upfront, not giving defenders a moment of peace. He has now made over 150 appearances for Celtic and regularly takes a selfless battering on behalf of the team.
Brother of manager Jay, Guy signed for Allotment in October 2021 and made his debut in the FA Vase at Pilkington.
