REPORT | West Allotment Celtic 2-4 North Shields

Our nine match unbeaten run in the league came to an end in the final game of the season as the champions, North Shields, showed their class.

The game began in bizarre circumstances as Allotment took an early lead through a freak own goal from JJ Chrisp. Despite that, Shields would then score the next four goals through Paul van Zandvliet, Dan Wilson (2) and Callum Smith.

Callum Larmouth grabbed his 30th goal of the season in final minutes through a penalty after a blatant handball on the line but, it was too little too late.

The visitors were greeted by a guard of honour from the Allotment players and management before kick off. 410 people also attended the game to see North Shields lift the Northern League Division One trophy at the end of play.

JJ Chrisp was the unfortunate man to score the strange own goal after 5 minutes to give Allotment the early lead. A Callum Larmouth cross-field ball was headed into his own net by Chrisp about 18 yards out.

West continued to turn the screw and had another golden opportunity on 7 minutes through Matty Hayton. A Luke Parkinson corner found the head of Hayton however, the glancing header drifted just wide.

Minutes later, Guy Bates almost doubled Allotment's lead. Another dangerous corner from Parkinson found Bates at the back post but the forward's shot came back off the post.

On 16 minutes, North Shields goalkeeper Oliver Marshall produced a double save to once again prevent Allotment doubling their lead. The ball was delivered dangerously into the box again from a corner, both Hayton and Jake Forster had efforts stopped by Marshall.

The Robins squared up the game on 19 minutes through Paul van Zandvliet. This time, it was the visitors with a dangerous corner and Allotment failed to clear their lines and Shields took advantage.

Before the half-hour mark, Allotment had a great opportunity to take the lead again. Guy Bates drilled a shot towards goal which was parried by Marshall. The rebound fell to Jack Pearson on the edge of the box however, the midfielder just dragged his effort wide.

North Shields' leading goal scorer, Dan Wilson made it 2-1 with five minutes to go before half-time. A clinical finish from distance beat Hodgson. Wilson almost added another goal before half-time. He drove into the box however, his deflected shot was saved at the near-post by Hodgson.

It was almost a dream start to the second half for Allotment as Thompson came close just 2 minutes afters the restart. He beat a couple of defenders before driving into the box but the shot on goal was well off-target.

The Robins then landed the knockout blow as they scored two goals in 10 minutes to effectively shut the door on West Allotment. Callum Smith capitalised on a stray back-pass and tidily finished it off to put his side 1-3 ahead on 58 minutes. On 68 minutes, Dan Wilson got his brace and his 40th goal of the season.

Despite being down and out, West Allotment continued to fight and were awarded a penalty with minutes to spare. Callum Larmouth's close-range shot was handled on the line by Anthony Myers and, after a delayed decision, the referee ultimately pointed to the spot.

Larmouth stepped up and buried the ball into the roof of the net to notch his 30th goal of the campaign and to ensure Allotment went down swinging.
