Since the two sides first met in 2006, Allotment are yet to beat Consett. That streak is now up to 19 games as Allotment's unfortunate record continues.
Allotment made a total of six changes from Saturday's FA Cup victory at Billingham Town as Marcio Dalia Lima, Michael Trodd, Jack Errington, Dean Walker, Shane Jones and Dario dos Santos all made their way into the starting XI.
The boys in green started brightly as well. After 5 minutes, a well-timed through ball from Trodd found Walker in a bit of space. Walker's shot was saved by Hayes' fingertips and forced an early corner for the visitors. Shane Jones was next to try his luck just a few minutes later however, his long range shot comfortably found the gloves of Hayes who stood to the test in the Consett goal.
The hosts were next to start getting a few shots away on goal. Dale Pearson had an effort which didn't trouble the Allotment goal as it sailed over the bar however, it was definitely a sign of intent and a sign of things to come.
Consett began to dominate the possession and they were keeping the ball on the floor and being patient as they waited for an opening. Allotment were still looking to get forward when they could and a counterattack move nearly paid off after 22 minutes. Gee Baltazar broke away down the left wing and beat a couple of men, the ball fell to the feet of Errington inside the box and his shot went inches wide.
One minute later, Consett went up the other end of the pitch and came close to taking the lead themselves as Callum Guy dragged his attempt just off target from inside the box. A moment later, dos Santos then dragged his effort wide down the other end of the pitch for Allotment.
On 25 minutes, another huge chances fell the way of West Allotment. Saturday's match winner Dean Walker was found in acres of space and one-on-one with the Consett goalkeeper. Unfortunately, it may have been one touch too many as the 'keeper put Walker under enough pressure to send his shot off target.
The remainder of the first half was dominated by the hosts. A pattern in the play was beginning to emerge where Consett were holding onto the ball very well. Eventually, they got their rewards on 41 minutes. Carl Lawson floated a ball over the Allotment backline and Dan Marriott was there to fire home from about 10 yards out.
Minutes later, Consett's lead was doubled in a bizarre and rather unfortunate fashion. A corner was swung in and Finn Hodgson couldn't claim it. The ball trickled into the net to make it 2-0. It's difficult to tell who the last touch came off but it will definitely go down as an own goal. The half time score was 2-0 to Consett.
The second half continued in a similar way to how the first half ended - Consett dominating the ball and looking increasingly likely to add to their goal tally. That is exactly what they did as they secured their third goal of the evening on 56 minutes.
Jake Orrell's through ball over the top of the Allotment defence found Dale Pearson in a world of space. He took the ball around Hodgson and walked the ball home into an empty net. It got even worse for West Allotment two minutes later as Dale Pearson's cross field ball found Luke Carr who fired the ball home from 25 yards to put Consett 4-0 ahead. It has to be said, it was a fantastic strike which would have beaten any goalkeeper.
Allotment made their three substitutions in the space of five minutes as Paterson, Chapim and Forster all entered the game for dos Santos, Walker and Errington.
Gilberto Chapim came close on 73 minutes however, his attempt on target was a comfortable save for the Consett 'keeper.
On 78 minutes the hosts scored their fifth and final goal of the encounter. Dale Pearson grabbed his second goal of the night as his ambitious shot from 30 yards out slipped through the gloves of Finn Hodgson.
The game finished with Consett taking the victory 5-0 and they have now started their league campaign with three wins from three games. It will go down as a night to forget for West Allotment however, we will be looking to put things right this Saturday in our next game as we travel to Penrith.
