After our first loss of the season last week the Ladies bounced back in the local derby to beat Wallsend U23s by three goals to two in what was a really close game and great advert for womens local football.
Allotment took the lead when Gabby McConnel latched on to a through ball from Allotments captain Emily Dodds to brush off the defender and slot home at the near post.
Dodds was again involved when she slid in to make a tackle which saw Wallsend awarded a penalty. The spot kick was well placed and gave Duff no chance in the Allotment goal. Wallsend looked dangerous on the break and went two one up before half time with a quick counter attack and a curling shot from twenty yards out.
After the break Allotment seemed to have more energy and started the better. After winning a corner on the left Faye Jardine swung the ball in which bounced along the ball and when it dropped Megan Hindmarsh despite being punched in the face by the Wallsend keeper headed the ball into the net.
Allotment started to create more chances and see more of the ball. The Allotment defence got themselves in a mess with a mix up and only a great tackle on the line by Jordan Dean prevented Wallsend going ahead.
The game looked set for a draw which may have been a fair result but Megan Hindmarsh had other ideas when she picked up the ball in midfield and sent a 30 yard lob over the Wallsend keeper and into the net to give Allotment all three points.
Next up is a county cup quarter final against newly formed Morpeth Town Ladies from the league below but who look to be having a great season and this will again prove a very good test as Allotment continue to rebuild their squad.
The clips shows Gabby McConnel getting the opener and Megan Hindmarsh's winner.
