The FA Vase run came to an end with West Allotment loosing 5-4 on penalties at Albion Sports in Bradford. The game was there for the taking with Allotment having more possession and attempts on goal. Allotment looked in control of the open minutes but a long kick from the Albion keeper caught Captian Micky Scott in two minds whether to let the ball go over his head or head it. He chose the latter and the ball when up and over the advancing Dan Gladstone and into the net to give the home side a goal.
However Allotment responded well and created lots of attacking moves. Guy Bates thought he had equalised but the goal was ruled offside. Allotment however did pull level with a nice move ending up with Giraud firing in from the edge of the box. Benedetti making his full debutant looking lively burst into the box and was fouled and a penalty awarded. Callum Larmouth stepped up to take it but saw his effort saved down to the keepers left and the chance to take the lead was gone.
Allotment still had most of the play but the final decision making let them down. Albion did have one or two chances but again the final touch wasn't there and Gladstone didn't make a save in the first half.
The second half was a little more open with Albion making a couple of subs. The game was end to end with Allotment having a number of counter attacks where they out numbered the defenders but again the final ball or shot wasn't there. Albion grew into the game and had a couple of good long range efforts which Gladstone had to save. The game became more frantic as the clock ticked down but neither side could find a goal. So with the scores level the dreaded penalties arrived , the scores were level at 4-4 when Capatin Micky Scott stepped up , unfortunately his penalty was saved by the keeper and up stepped probably Albion's best player on the day winger Robbie Fox and his kick found the net to send Albion through. That was Allotment's third exit on penalties in the last five years in a game where we played some lovely football but need to be more clinical.
